John Harres

John Frances Harres

John F. Harres, 75, passed away on May 14, 2013 at his home in San Diego after a fierce battle against cancer. To have known John is to remember his quick wit and charming smile. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

At 18 he joined the Air Force as an Airman. He was selected for the honor guard at the Squaw Valley Winter Olympics.

He met his first wife Beverly, mother of his four children, while living in Reno. John was successful as a salesman and entrepreneur. He was also a member of the Rodeo Association and a volunteer for the Pleasant Valley Fire Department.

John moved to San Diego to care for his father. During that time he met his beloved wife Elvira. She was always by his side. He called her his "Rock" and adored her. He enjoyed the ocean where he spent time on his boat and shared that with his grandkids.

John was predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his wife Elvira, sons Michael and Daniel, daughters Kathy Monaco and Christina Derifield, and four grandchildren. He also will be missed by his little companion Jake. John donated his body to USD Medical School in hopes of helping others through cancer research.

He is gone but will never be forgotten by the countless people whose life he touched. If you have memories or a story to share, please email it to
