Jess Echeita died peacefully on August 28, 2017 at his home in Sparks with his family. Jess was born on January 3, 1932 in Garay, Vizcaya , Spain. As a child he went to school and worked on the family farm, always dreaming of coming to America. In 1948 at the age of 16 he got his wish and immigrated to the United States. He arrived in Reno and began working for his uncle as a sheepherder. Jess had many fond memories of working in the sheep camps. Working summers and attending school in the winter. In 1958 he traveled back to Spain and met the love of his life Pilar, and they were married in November 1959. After returning to the United States Jess and his new bride decided to make Reno their home. Jess began working in the construction industry and worked many years with Byars Construction and TW Construction, retiring in 1993. In his retirement Jess enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and traveling with his wife. You could find him at Fort Bragg every year Abalone diving and rock picking, bragging about the size of the "Abs" he had found.
Jess is survived by his beloved wife Pilar, sons Richard, Andy (Laurie), sister Lourdes, Grandchildren Jesse and Michonne, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Northern Nevada Medical Center, Dr. Chad Bidart, Dario his Physical Therapist and Kindred Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at Waltons Ross, Burke & Knobel, 2155 Kietzke Lane, Reno NV. on September 9,2017 at 11:00 am. The family is kindly asking that in lieu of flowers please make a donation to St Judes Children Hospital in Jess Echeita's memory.
