Claude Chadwell Obituary

Claude A. Chadwell of Reno passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was 93.
Claude A. "Chad" Chadwell was born on October 7, 1917, in Caney Spring, Tennessee, to Loulene and William Chadwell. He attended Forrest High School in Chapel Hill, TN, and upon graduation was awarded a football scholarship to Middle Tennessee State Teachers College (now called Middle Tennessee State University), but had to drop out after two years due to an injury. He did, however, remain an avid football fan, especially of the San Francisco 49ers. After a few odd jobs he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and was sent to Gerlach, NV as an Educational Assistant. It was there that he met Mary, his future wife. After their marriage he became the Chief Chemist at the Pacific-Portland Cement Company in Gerlach. Mary and Chad had two daughters, Annette and Gail.
After their move to Reno, Chad went to work for Eagle Picher Industries, where he soon became the general works manager. He remained in that job until his retirement. After retirement, he went to work for Wade's Silver Shop for a few years. Chad was a member of the First Congregational Church.
He is survived by his Wife, Mary; Annette Marshall, daughter; Gail and Jim Herz, daughter and son-in-law; Shannon, Sunshine Stevens, and Oskar Chadwell, grandson and wife, and great-grandson, and numerous other relatives.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Gold 'N Silver Inn, 790 W. 4th St., Reno, at 2 p.m.
