Dennis Pierre Zubieta

September 30, 1942

November 14, 2012

Longtime Fernley resident Dennis Zubieta passed away unexpectedly at his home in Fernley, Nevada on November 14, 2012. Dennis was born in Reno, Nevada, was raised in Sparks and Fernley, and graduated from Fernley High School. Dennis was raised on a dairy and, although he was a longtime member of the carpenters union, he never lost his passion for farming and ranching. Dennis was an avid outdoorsman. He was honored for outstanding success pursuing Nevada Big Game by receiving the John C. Fremont Award in 2010. Dennis held several Nevada State Game Records, and still holds the record for the largest Rocky Mountain Goat in the lower 48 states. He truly enjoyed his lifelong friends that he made in the farming and ranching community and numerous hunting buddies. In his early hunting career he was an apprentice and understudy of Wes Schofield, and then Dennis graduated with his Certificate of Journeymen Guide from John Zenz. Being a previous active participant in Fernley High School sports, he supported the athletes by attending games at every opportunity. Fernley High School honored Dennis by inducting him into the Fernley Athletic Hall of Fame and then later naming him Fan of the Year.

He is survived by his wife Victoria; his children Gina (Ron), sons Dennis (Cheryl), and Dwayne (Renee); seven grandchildren Peter, Courtney, & Amanda, Mitchell, Sean, & Chad, and Jordan; siblings JoAnn, Frank (Cheryl) and Deynese; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday November 18th at the Old Wadsworth Gym on School Street in Wadsworth, Nevada. Pot luck dinner will follow the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please consider donations to a Fernley High School Scholarship Fund in Dennis's name.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Gardens, Lorretta Guazzini (775) 423-8928 www.thegardensfuneralhome.com
