Eleanor Irene Mahany Renshaw passed away peacefully on Easter afternoon, April 24, 2011, at the Pershing General Hospital Nursing Home where she had been a resident for a short time. Her daughter and son-in-law were at her side.
Eleanor was born on January 10, 1922 in Goshen, Oregon, the eldest child of Richard Harper Mahany and Edna Muriel "Myrle" Hayes. After the very early death of her father, her family moved to San Francisco where she was raised and graduated from Balboa High School.
In 1943 she married Norman Renshaw in Reno, where they made their home until moving to Sparks in 1950. Eleanor later moved to Ely, Nevada where she was the chief operator for the telephone company until the office closed in 1980, at which time she retired. She later moved back to Sparks and then in 1999 she moved to Lovelock to be near her daughter, Sheila Schein. Her friends at the Senior Center used to refer to her lovingly as "Red Rover" because of her red mobility cart.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her father, who died at the age of 21, her mother, her husband, her sister, Winifred Whitaker, and a daughter, Kathleen, who only lived for four days. She is survived by her daughter Sheila Schein (Robert) of Lovelock, her grandchildren, Julie Schein Gritton (Jamie) of Orem, Utah and James Norman Schein (Jeanette) of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and seven wonderful great-grandchildren.
No services will be held. Cremation and inurnment will be handled by Mountain View Cemetery in Reno.

Sending my condolances and sympathies today in behalf of Eleanor whom I never met but knew Shiela from high School. I graduated in 1962 from Sparks High and remember Sheila. "Moms" are a great loss and my heart goes out to Sheila and family this day. Though Eleanor is gone....she surely will not be forgotten. Donald McDonald
