Glen Adair Obituary

Glen Edward Adair

January 6, 1944

December 25, 2013

Our dear husband, father, brother, mentor, teacher, and friend passed away peacefully on Christmas Day with family by his side. Glen Edward Adair was born in Santa Monica, California on January 6, 1944. He graduated from Culver City High School, received a B.S. from California State University, Northridge; and an M.A. from the University of Nevada, Reno.

From 1963-1966, Glen served in the US Army Air Corps and assisted in the development of the Harrier Aircraft during the Vietnam War. He subsequently worked as a pilot for American Airlines, coached college football at West Los Angeles and Pierce Colleges, and most memorably, influenced and inspired thousands of students, teachers and parents as the principal of Owyhee Combined School, Elko High School and Carson High School in Nevada. Recognized as "Outstanding K-12 School Administrator" by the University of Nevada in 2002, Glen later retired from the Nevada educational system in 2006 and became the Director of the American School in Durango, Mexico for the following two years.

In 2008, Glen and his beloved wife Kathy began their retirement together, spending time between the Massachusetts Berkshires and Mazatlan, Mexico. Glen enjoyed playing golf, fishing, boating, cooking, teaching, football, traveling and exploring the world. Above all, Glen loved to spend time with his two sons, Ryan and Jedd, of whom he was tremendously proud.

He is survived by his beloved wife Kathleen Linda Adair; his two wonderful sons, Ryan and Jedd; his sister Jean Ann Botana; nieces Lisa Schwartz, Adrienne and Allison Botana, and Kaitlin and Lauren Swan; and his faithful canine companion, Pooter.

On Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 12:00 noon, the family invites all to attend a chapel service at the historic Pittsfield Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Adair home at 36 Valentine Road, Pittsfield, MA, 01201.

After the funeral service, the Adair family will donate flowers to the ill and elderly. Flowers may be sent to Pittsfield Cemetery, 203 Wahconah Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201. Memorial donations may be made to the Carson High School Scholarship Fund, 1111 N. Saliman Road, Carson City, NV 89701, which supports furthering the education of disadvantaged students.

Trying to fit Glen in Jed's waders it one of my favorite memories. It was like trying to stuff a marshmallow in a piggy bank. We laughed till our sides hurt

One last message...it funny how you don't forget certain things(44years ago)...Glen's Tamale Pie...greatest thing out of a package according to Glen. Once we moved into the Beach pad we grilled everything after that...from then on it was beef and football. Your old roomy.

Glen hired me in 1994 for my first real job as a high school counselor. I cannot thank him enough for having faith in me. He was always there for the students and was always willing to listen when I came knocking on his door for help. I will miss him greatly. Kathy, my prayers are with you and the boys.

Although it took almost 8 years...and we never met...in a way you did reach me. I feel like the message is Dont give up yet... It seems almost pointless but I read about you and found out you wanted to help me. Just knowing someone cared to help me even if it was then to know it now gives me a reason and reminder to not give up on the college dream. I'll keep trying...there's gotta be a way and I'll find it.

Dear Kathy, Ryan, and Jed,
Jack and I are so sad for you all. Glen was such a presence for so many of us it's hard to believe he's gone. What a shock!

Glen made a positive difference in thousands of lives (including mine). That is perhaps the most important thing any of us can hope to achieve.

Jack was WNS Computer Science student of the year 2001-2002 while a junior at CHS. Thank you Mr. Adair. You helped Jack avoid the dark side of computing. The FBI didn't show up at my house. Jack is not living in Russia, a la Snowden. Thank you so much for allowing Jack a positive outlet for his talents. Our family will remember you.

Kathy we never met but I'm sure Glen may have mentioned an old roommate he had "Boom Boom"...I played semi-pro football with Glen in 1969 and later talked him into quitting his job at the airlines and going back to school and playing football for a new junior college in West Los Angeles...the rest is his legacy. We never saw each other after 1972 but I kept on eye on him over the years. Although it has been 42 years I still have all those great memories of football and those parties at our beach house...we were legends. Glen your passing has brought back those great memories and you will be missed by all...my heart felt condolences to all of your family and rest in peace old buddy.

KATHY and boys-my heart just broke when I found out about Glens passing. I have some great memories with lots of laughter with Glen. One was trying to squeeze him into Jeds waiders when I took him Fishing. We laughed till we cried. He was a great man and will be missed by tons of us. Fondly Susan Oakwood

Coach Adair touched the lives of many young men at Incline High School and I'm sorry to hear of his passing. Kathy, my sincerest condolences to you and the rest of your family, but take comfort in the fact that he's standing on his tip-toes on heaven's sideline screaming "That ball should have been CAUGHT!" Rest in Peace Coach, I'm a better man for having known and received your mentorship.

Glen was my mother's best friend in the neighborhood. She always talked about how she looked forward to walking about Valentine Road to talk politics with Glen. Wow! Is she going to miss him.

I'm shocked and saddened to hear the news that you have passed. I played on the first team you coached in 1979 at Incline HS, NV. You were a good man and will not be forgotten. RIP Coach

Kath, I am so sorry to hear of Glen's passing. He was a good man. I loved him and am blessed to have known him. He was the first coach to show me what it meant and felt like to truly be believed in. Each of his players were special to him, and he left an everlasting impression on each one of us. He will be missed but never forgotten. Kris Johnson, Incline High, class of 1980.
