John Fast Obituary
Born 1932 in Burlingame, Kansas, to John M. and Joyce Elnora Fast, and died February 9, 2011, in Santa Rosa, California.
After serving in the US Army in Japan and Korea, John completed his bachelor's degree at Northern Colorado University in Greeley. He took his first teaching job in the late 1950s at Central High School in Reno. He also taught for two years at the high school for US military dependents in Berlin, Germany, arriving there shortly after the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961.
After his return to the US, he completed his master's in education at Emporia State Teachers College and returned to Reno and taught industrial arts at Billinghurst Junior High School - until its demolition in 1976 - and at Pine Middle School until his retirement in 1988. John was drawn to Reno because he was an avid hiker, skier, and cyclist.
John is survived by his loving partner, Dolores Merryman, son Christopher (& Leah), granddaughters Linnea and Alma, brother Greg, ex-wife Dagmar, nieces Janis and Julie, nephew Jeff, and the many members of the Adcock/Merryman family. A celebration of John's life will take place on Saturday, April 23, 3:00 PM, at the home David Merryman, 4310 Perro Ln, Reno. Please call Christopher Fast for more information: (206) 331-6357.

My heartfelt condolences go to the Fast family. John was my teacher at Billinghurst Jr High. He taught me Mechanical Drawing and Wood Shop. Later on in life, John and I became friends and he would come and watch me perform with my bands. He really will be missed and he was a terrific teacher. Rest in peace, my friend.
