Kiyoko Imagawa Fukui, age 88, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2013, in Marin County, California. She was born on April 18, 1924, in Sacramento, California to Daijiro and Hisaye Imagawa. She grew up in Sacramento and graduated from Clarksburg High School in 1942.
Kiyo's chosen profession was civil service. She began her career in the Civilian Personnel Branch in the Presidio of San Francisco, and in 1982, she retired after 24 years from the USPFO Comptroller Division of the Nevada Army and Air Force National Guard.
Kiyo married Dewey Fukui on June 24, 1956 in San Francisco, California. They were happily married for 53 years. A resident of Carson City, Nevada for over 56 years, Kiyo was a vibrant member of the community, and along with her husband, actively supported the Japanese American Citizens League and attended annual reunions of the 442nd Infantry regiment.
Kiyo enjoyed traveling with friends and family, tending to her home and garden, and taking long walks with her dog, Summer. A joyful, vivacious person, Kiyo was loved for her generosity, kindness, and good humor.
She is survived by her sisters, Kay Zolinsky, June Blackburn, Yukiye Shaffer, and Mary Iyama, her brother, Tom Imagawa, her sister-in-law, Ida Weiss, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kiyo was preceded in death by her parents, Daijiro and Hisaye, her husband, Dewey, and her sisters, Koko Kageta and Dorothy Rathkamp.
Memorial Services will be held at Keaton's Mortuary in San Rafael, California on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 11:00 a.m.
