Martha ("Marti") Ann Barnhill (née Warren), born on April 3, 1935 in Evanston, IL, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2015, surrounded by her family, following a brief illness. Marti was married in 1957 to Sidney Burton Simmonds of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and resided in Omaha, NE with her husband and four children when she was widowed as the result of a plane crash in 1966. In 1971, she married Earl Stanton Barnhill and they moved to Reno where he served as a professor of Criminal Justice at UNR until his untimely death in 1989. While her husband served on the UNR faculty, Marti participated in the Faculty Wives Association. Marti was an antiques dealer and homemaker. She enjoyed her family and friends, reading, travel, playing cards, geneology and collecting. She is survived by close friend Walter Harold West, children Gordon Simmonds of Stockham, NE, James Burton Simmonds of Dallas, TX, Clary Ann Simmonds of Baltimore, MD, and William David Barnhill of Lawrence, KS, as well as by grand-children Rachel Suzanne Pittman, Brian Gordon Simmonds, Hannah Marie Hanmer, Erin Ruth Hanmer, James Ivan Hanmer, and Allison Elizabeth Crofoot. She was also blessed with two amazing and adorable great-grandsons, Jacob Crofoot and Elliott Pittman. At Marti's request, no services will be held. Her ashes will be buried in Bonne Terre, MO, alongside her husband, and daughter Teresa Marie Simmonds.
