Mary DeCarlo passed away peacefully on December 14, 2012. Mary was born April 4th, 1917 in Mosta, Malta to Spiro Ciappara and Carmella Chetcuti. Mary lived in Malta until she came to United States with her mother in 1925 where they joined her father. Her family lived in Detroit, MI. It was here that she met the love of her life, Paul DeCarlo and they were married June 12, 1939. They started a family and relocated to San Francisco in 1947 and remained in the Bay Area for the next 47 years. One of her favorite past times was going ballroom dancing at the Maltese Club in San Francisco. Mary worked for Western Can Company. In 1994, Paul and Mary moved to Reno, NV. Mary was known as a hard worker both at work and at home. She was a superb cook of Maltese food and well known for her Pastizzi recipe. Mary also enjoyed working in her garden. She was very good with needle work and could crochet with her eyes closed. Mary had a soft spot for animals, and particularly her dogs, Peppy and Nicky. Most of all, Mary enjoyed being around her family, and especially adored the grandbabies. Mary is survived by her husband of 73 years, Paul; her daughter Charlotte Marsh (Bob) of Reno, NV; her son John DeCarlo (Linda) of Troy, MT; her five grandchildren Sherri, Lori, Ricky, Robbie, and David; 8 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters; and two great, great grandchildren. Mary was dearly loved by her family and will be deeply missed. A Rosary Memorial will be held at Mountain View Mortuary, 425 Stoker Avenue in Reno, on Friday, December 21st at 7:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, 1138 Wright Street in Reno, on Saturday, December 22nd at 1:00pm.
