Virginia Leigh Miner was born to Oscar and Cora Larson in Klamath Falls, OR. She grew up in Yreka, CA where she completed High School. She graduated from Mary's Help College of Nursing in San Francisco in 1949. In 1950, she began her nursing career in Kotzebue, AK for the Bureau of Indian Affairs Hospital. She met her husband Joe Miner in Kotzebue where he was employed by the Fish and Wildlife Service. They married in 1951, moved to Fairbanks and lived there until 1960. The family lived in Albuquerque, NM before moving to Reno in 1964.
Virginia was active in the Catholic Church as a member of the Altar Society, Legion of Mary and was a Lay Carmelite. She was a devoted mother and loved by all who knew her. She peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by her husband and children in her home. She is survived by her husband Joe, 7 children (Celine, Paul, Jim, Stephen, Theresa, John and Thomas), 13 grand children and 9 great-grandchildren.
A Rosary service will be held at Walton's Sierra Chapel (875 W. Second St) Monday, Jan 14th at 7pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral Tuesday, Jan 15th at 10am.
