Ronald Dale Gibson

July 27, 1959

January 17, 2014

Ronald Dale Gibson passed away January 17, 2014 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Ron was born July 27, 1959 in Hiawatha, Kansas to Gerald and Joyce Gibson. The family relocated to Reno when he was 3 months old, where he lived thereafter. Second only to family and friends Ron loved red wine, vintage muscle cars and sports, especially baseball. He excelled in Little League and was a Cub Scout in grade school, played in the school band in junior high; and in high school he participated in track & field, where he qualified for the Junior Olympics in the high hurdle event. Ron loved spending time with family and friends camping, cliff diving and traveling. He once took a 6 week cross country trip in his Camaro with his dog Pagan, visiting friends and family along the way. He met the love of his life, Lan'Ying, on the internet and made several trips to China to get to know her better, coming home speaking Chinese very impressively after only 4 weeks! He brought Lan'Ying and her son Nan Nan home to the U.S. in 2005 and they were married in February of 2006. He made several more trips to China and Japan to visit with Lan'Ying's family and friends. Ron's favorite past-time was visiting wineries throughout California and Oregon. In recent years he began making his own wine at home and always dreamed of owning his own vineyard. Ron was full of love for life and was always ready to help in any circumstance. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Tom and Ruby Gibson and Emmett and Mary Sklenar, father Jerry Gibson, step-mother Norma Gibson and step-father Ken Robken. He is survived by his wife Lan'Ying Gibson, mother Joyce Robken, sisters Randa Morales, Lora Gibson, Carrie Gutierrez, brothers Mike Robken, Alan Aday, Rodney Aday, Jeff Aday, son Nan Nan Zhang, daughter Ravae Backe, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many loving friends.
