Frances Mae LaTourrette, 92, died peacefully on December 16, 2013 in the presence of her loving family. Frances was born September 22, 1921 in Fernley, Nevada to Ralph and Fannie Austin. The family later moved to Lovelock where she graduated from Pershing County High School in 1939 then attended and graduated from Mills College in Oakland, California in 1943. In 1941 while she was in college the family moved to Reno.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband Gene LaTourrette whom she married June 3, 1944. During their working years both were active volunteers in the community and they along with their partners ran a successful real estate and insurance business until retirement.
During the course of her brief illness the family was fortunate to have an opportunity to share memories of wonderful meals, friendships, and invaluable stories of old Nevada.
Frances was an avid bridge player until her last few years. Her close group of players and friends kept her independent, active, and engaged. In countless ways her independence and valued friendships were her gift and legacy to the family. She left each of us with a renewed spirit and enthusiasm for life.
She is survived by her son John LaTourrette, daughter in law Nancy LaTourrette, daughter Lynn Rice (Mike), granddaughter Lisa Silva (Jim), and her great grandchildren AJ Silva and Brooke Silva.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the
The family would like to express our sincerest thanks to Saint Mary's Hospital, Manor Care of Reno, and Molly at Gentiva for their caring and compassionate work.
