Kathleen (Kay) Carano Herring, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2014. She was born on January 29, 1924 on the Deremer Ranch, later known as the Carano Ranch and Dairy. She attended Anderson Elementary, Billinghurst Middle School and graduated from Reno High School.
Kay was the credit manager for Sara Lee and the S.E. Rykoff Corporations for over 30 years. She was a lifetime member of the Anderson Elementary School PTA and served as President of VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Reno, Nevada. Kay was a lifetime parishioner of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church. After her retirement, she managed family properties, traveled, and tended her garden.
Our family cherishes all the wonderful memories she shared with us at Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Timber Trails, Dallas, Texas, Santa Barbara and Hawaii.
Kay will be remembered for her Sunday and holiday family dinners and her delicious, homemade gnocchi and ravioli. She enjoyed playing board games and card games with her children and grandchildren, and taking hikes to scenic places around Lake Tahoe.
In addition to her parents, S.J. and Albina Carano, Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, brother, John, and sister-in-law, Vickie Carano. She is survived by her sister, Marie Carano; sons, Robert (Laurie) and Greg (Janet); daughters, Judy Albright (Deane) and Cathy Hall (Tom); grandchildren, Chris Rahimzadeh (Nariman), Kim Kimmel (Mike), Scott Albright (Charla), Michael Albright, Brian Hall (Tasha), Erin Hall Blitzstein (Eric), Tammy Barnes (Danny) and Kevin Herring; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kylie Rahimzadeh, Logan, Connor and MaKenna Kimmel, Ava and Andrew Hall, Aiden Barnes and Benjamin Blitzstein.
