Gary was born and raised in San Mateo, CA. Gary passed away May 21st after a courageous and brief fight against brain cancer.

Gary began his studies at the college of San Mateo from 1959 through 1961. He then transferred to the University of Reno NV where he continued studying geology at the Mackay School of Mines. He later transferred to the Ag Department where he received a BS in Soils Science in the mid 1960's. The highlights of his professional career include: managing the Rocky Mountain Geochemical Laboratory during the 1970's; helping starting and managing, along with Henry Scales, the very successful Hunter Mining Laboratory in the 1980's. Gary remained active in the geochemical industry by designing and managing the fire assay portion of Geochemical Services Incorporated ( GSI ) in the late 1980's. From there, he designed and constructed the Barringer Laboratory facilities in Reno.

In the mid 1990's , Gary decided to change direction and became a successful real estate agent. He continued in this profession until his death.

Gary loved to travel and spent much of the last five years travelling to Europe, Asia, South America, Antartica and Australia.

Gary is survived by his children, Holly Plummer, Paul Fechko and Amber Fechko. His loving partner Michele McQuivey and her children, Lesley , Conor and Dane.

Gary will be remembered for his twinkling blue eyes, his great " green thumbs" and impeccably groomed hair . He was always available to lend a helping hand, always upbeat and positive and told wonderful travel stories.He will be so missed by many friends and loved ones.

A Memorial Service will be held at Ross, Burke and Knobel Mortuary at 2155 Kietzke Lane on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 11:00am.
