Winneva Fern Miller passed away at St. Mary's in Reno on May 30, 2014. She was born in San Diego on January 25, 1926 and soon moved with her family to the railroad telegraph settlement at Weso, Nevada. She was home schooled and then graduated from Humboldt County High School in 1945. She went on to college at San Jose State and later at University of Nevada, reno, receiving a degree in Eduacation. She taught for 28 years in Babitt (Hawthorne), Reno, and Sparks, and nine years at U.S. military schools in Scotland, Germany, the Azores, Morocco, and Italy. She travelled widely in Europe, Egypt, Russia, India, the Phillipines, Hong Kong, Mexico and Alaska. on retirement, she received a Certificate of Appreciation from Washoe County School District and a Dedicated Service Award from Washoe County Teachers Association.
Winneva wa preceded in death by her parents, Minnie and Martin Miller, and by two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her sisters Priscilla Dorazio and Jewel Lojo, and by her brother Stanley Miller. She is also survived by five nephews and a niece and by their families.
On Winneva's request, there will be no services. Her family extends thanks and warm wishes to her many friends who were so kind and thoughtful through the years.
