Judith Ellen Root, 71, of Reno, went to be with her savior, Jesus Christ, July 26, surrounded by family.
She was born to Mary Ellen Brown and the late Carroll Franklin Brown, June 1, 1943, in Independence, MO. Judy graduated from Yreka High School in 1961 and attended Prairie Bible College where she met and married John Bruce Root in 1965. They lived together in Yreka, CA., before relocating to Fallon, NV in 1969.
Judy served with her husband for NICE (Northern Independent Church Extension) planting churches on Indian colonies before accepting the position as director of CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship) in Northern Nevada. After years of faithful service at CEF, she accepted the position as CPC (Crisis Pregnancy Center) director. She attended Grace Community Church where she was a mentor mom for the MOPS (Mothers of Preschool Students) program before returning to church planting in working alongside her husband as the pastor's wife at Colony Christian Fellowship.
Judy was an active member of Grace Community Church and Colony Christian Fellowship working with the children and women groups. Her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, generated her passion, compelled her service and defined her life. Jesus is the answer. (John 3:16)
Judy is survived by her husband and three children: Gregory and Tami Root of Bakersfield, Dianne and Pablo Aguirre of Reno and Debra and Daniel Lucas of Reno. She also is survived by eight grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to Colony Christian Fellowship.
Services will be held Thursday, July 31 at Colony Christian Church at 12:30. A short reception will be held directly after the service to celebrate her amazing life.
