James ("Jimmy") Franklin Gibson, Jr., passed away at his residence in Reno, Nevada on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Jimmy was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 27, 1939 to Irene Walker and James Franklin Gibson, Sr.
Jimmy began piloting airplanes when he was a teenager and after decades of working in the industry he never lost his passion for flight and flight instruction. He was equally passionate about politics and civil rights and fought against injustice and inequality until the day he passed away. Jimmy's three grandsons, Kaden, Tanner and Hudson Winter were his pride and joy. Jimmy also looked forward to walking his dog in southwest Reno every evening.
James Gibson is survived by his daughter, Jamie Lynne Winter, his son-in-law Rick Winter, his three grandsons, his niece Phoebe Richardson, his aunt Marjie Mertz, his loving cousins in Augusta, Georgia including Benjamin ("Bunny") Walker, Jr. and Billy Herman. James Gibson was also survived by his dear friend James Edward Norris.
James Gibson was preceded in death by his mother, his father, his step father John Gerson, his son Michael Gibson, his beloved sister Faith Richardson, his brother-in-law Bob Richardson, and his nephew Vic Richardson.
A time of gathering will be held on Tuesday, August 5th at 2:00 p.m. at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Mr. Gibson will be laid to rest beside his mother and step father near Atlanta, the city he loved and always considered home.
