Ernest McMurry, 90, passed away on August 14, 2014, three months after his beloved wife of 65 years passed. A native of Memphis, Texas, he was born July 16, 1924, the son of Ed and Lula (Webster) McMurry.
Ernie served in World War II in the Navy and met his wife, Dorothy, in San Francisco. He was later employed by Southern Pacific Railroad in San Francisco for 35 years, and after retirement enjoyed traveling and living in San Carlos, California, Incline Village, Gold Canyon, Arizona, and Reno. He was a sweet, kind and gentle soul, devoted to his wife and family, and really enjoyed his occasional "Old Fashioned" cocktail. He felt so fortunate and privileged to be able to travel with Honor Flight Nevada to Washington D.C. in June 2013 and was very humbled and moved by the experience and wonderful volunteers.
Ernie was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother, Billy. He is survived by his daughter, Joan Schulte (Dan); son, Bob McMurry; and his grandchildren, Kimberly Diegle (David), Kristen, Jason, and Callie.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the amazing caregivers and staff at Five Star Premiere Residences for their kindness and compassion. Private military interment will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada, with a celebration of life to follow at his daughter's home. If desired, please make any donations to Honor Flight Nevada, P.O. Box 21123, Reno, NV 89515.
We'll miss you Dad. Say hi to Mom. Aloha Oe …
