Walter "Sonny" Theodore
RICHARDS
Fallon native Walter "Sonny" Theodore Richards passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Banner Churchill Hospital. Walt was born on August 15, 1931 to Walter and Mary (Ascargorta) Richards.
He graduated from Churchill County High School in 1949. He attended St Mary's College for two years before entering the United States Naval Academy. Upon graduation from the Academy he had a career with the US Navy for the next 26 years. Upon his retirement he returned to Fallon where he became the Assistant City Engineer. He also worked for a time as the bookkeeper of finances for the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribal Administration.
Walt joined the Elk's in 1962 while setting up the first logistic support office for Admiral Rickhouse in Blackfoot, ID. He was a life time member of the Fallon BPOE 2239, also a member of the VFW. Walt enjoyed the camaraderie with the Elk's as well as the VFW members. Walt loved being in the outdoors with his family and especially his cousin Basil Cislini. He excelled in hunting deer and antelope, ducks and also fishing. He loved to be in Ione, NV.
Preceded in death by his parents. Walt is survived by his wife, Betty J. Richards; sons, William; Lyle, Matt (Diana), Kevin, Jack Moyle (Allyson); daughters, Mary Ascargorta, Michelle Moyle (Doug) Jones; grandchildren, Christal Smith, Nora Encinas, Keith Moyle, Lyle Brooks, Cassie Moyle, TJ Jordan, Annalisa Herrera, Desirea Danner, Madison and Gabriel Richards and several great- grandchildren.

A Celebration of Walt's life will be held on Friday, August 28, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Gardens Chapel, 2949 Austin Highway Fallon, NV. Arrangements are under the direction of The Gardens Funeral Home 775 423-8928.

Sonny, I will always remember how you incorporated me into the family when we were in Ione.
