Michael de Salvo passed away in his home on January 7, 2011. The son of Fred and Doris de Salvo (Thompson), Michael was born in Berkeley, California and reared in Reno on the bank of the Truckee River where his family settled when he was three months old. Mike graduated from Reno High School in 1962. He spent most of his career in the San Francisco Bay Area, working for a number of years for the University of California Retirement System and then in the field of special education. An avid athlete and a formidable intellectual, Michael was gifted with an exuberance that was bound to make a strong impression on everyone he met.

Michael is survived by his children: Roman de Salvo of San Diego, CA; Mark de Salvo of Los Angeles, CA; Pilar Ellendorf of Spearfish, SD; and Alaire de Salvo of Vancouver, WA, as well as three grandchildren: Michael, Nori, and Zachary Ellendorf, all of Spearfish, SD. He additionally is survived by his sister, Toni de Salvo, of Reno, and numerous extended family members. A private family memorial is planned.
