Obituary Condolences

Alice R. Baird

Mom peacefully passed on Sunday, March 20, 2011. She was born Alicia Rose Madarieta on July 22, 1918 to John and Felicia Madarieta in Ely, NV and was the eldest of three children.

Her early years were spent living on ranches in Nevada and Idaho where our Grandfather tended sheep. She often reminisced about the fact that a teacher was hired to live on the ranch and teach the children.

Mom graduated from Battle Mountain High School and was crowned Miss Battle Mountain in 1934. She moved to Reno where she attended and graduated from The Reno Business College.

Mom met and married our Dad, Louis Brackett in 1942. He passed in 1956. In 1958 Mom married our Papa, Victor F. Baird who passed in 2008.

Mom was employed by Sanford Tractor and its subsequent names, i.e., Sierra Machinery, until she retired in the early 1980s.

She and Papa spent their retirement traveling the world. The last place they visited was to the Basque Land in Spain to see our relatives.

Due to serious health issues Mom spent the last fifteen months of her life under the exemplary care of Hearthstone of Northern Nevada. While there, her health improved so that she was able to participate in activities. She especially enjoyed the musical entertainment provided. We will always remember her swaying and keeping time to the songs of old as they were being played. She participated in games, daily exercises, and arts and crafts, even winning an occasional prize.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents, John and Felicia Madarieta; brother, John; sister, Inez; husbands, Lou Brackett and Vic Baird; daughters, JoAnn Brackett Carroll and Cynthia Baird Lewis.

She is survived by her children, Pat Brackett-Wright (John) of Reno; Louis John Brackett, Sr. (Marty) of Stockton CA; Cathy Baird Proschwitz (Kurt) of Iron River MI; numerous grand and great grandchildren.

A recitation of the rosary will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Walton's Funeral Home on the corner of Second and Vine Streets, Reno NV.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hearthstone Activities Department, 1950 Baring Blvd, Sparks NV 89434 or to your favorite charity.

Maite zaitut Ama. Bakea egon.
