LuDeane Peterson Raymond

LuDeane Peterson Raymond, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away suddenly and peacefully at her home in Sparks, Nevada on September 16, 2011. She was 79 years old.

Lu was born on March 22, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Derrell F. Peterson and Hattie W. Peterson. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and very proud of her pioneer heritage. She lived with her family in Salt Lake City until the age of 14, when the family relocated to Maryland for her father's employment. She graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Maryland, and attended University of Maryland where she met her future husband and eternal love, Dr. Mark Bradford Raymond. After medical school and residency in Salt Lake City, she and Mark settled in Sparks, Nevada where Mark was a physician in Family Practice for 26 years and where they were loved and respected members of the community. She was a member of the LDS Sparks First Ward and served in many church callings. Lu was always known for her vivacious, fun personality and had many interests, but was most proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy.

Lu was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, sister, Jean Burnett, son-in-law, Ronald Downs and a grandchild, Derek John Lorentzen. She is survived by her children: Linda Downs, Robin Almaraz (Raul), Laura Lorentzen (John) and Brad Raymond (Tara); grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jason Downs (Dawn) and sons, Connor and Devin, Shawn Downs (Ashley) and sons, Trenton and Riley, Jessi Downs, Michael Almaraz, Isidra Almaraz, Alisia Almaraz and sons Kenton and Johnathon Almaraz, Emma Almaraz, Victoria Almaraz, Mark Lorentzen, Anne Lorentzen, Lisa Lorentzen, Kathryn Lorentzen and Dante Raymond; a brother, Robert Peterson (Linda) of Provo, Utah and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Lu will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 2955 N. Rock Blvd in Sparks. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 21 from 7:00 - 8:00 pm at Walton Sparks Funeral Home, 1745 Sullivan Lane, Sparks and Thursday at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Internment to follow the service at Mountain View Cemetary, 435 Stoker in Reno.
