Ronald Dean Eller, 65, of Hartford, Conn., transitioned to Spirit on October 16, 2012, after heart surgery.
Ron was born in Grangeville, ID, on January 23, 1947. In 1960, his parents moved the family to Reno, NV, where he attended Our Lady Of Snows Elementary and graduated from Bishop Manogue High.
While at Manogue and being mentored by Reno runner Skip Houk, Ron won the State Track Meet mile championship two times and the half mile once. In 1965, he won it on a dirt track in Elko in a time of 4:17.6, a record that still stands today.
He went on to a stellar distance running career at the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque with the ultimate goal of competing in the 1968 Olympics. An injury forced Ron to then pursue his other extraordinary talent, his creative art. Beginning in commercial art, he spent the final 10 years of his life exploring and sharing his fine art works.
Ron is survived by his wife, Rose Hernandez-Eller; daughter, Micaela Eller (Thomas Edwards); son, Karim Klinke Hernandez (Amanda); son, Sean Eller; sister, Pat Kimball, and uncle, Richard Eller, and six grandchildren, Kaleigh and Isabelle (Micaela), Victoria, Michael Jr., Ronie and Juliean (Michael). He was pre-deceased by his mother and father, Joyce and Clair Eller , and his son Michael Eller.

A Memorial and Gathering in Reno to honor Ron will be held Saturday, November 10th, at 2 p.m. at Bishop Manogue High School Chapel, 110 Bishop Manogue Dr., with Gathering to follow at the Tamarack Casino.
