Thelma R. Voorhees

Thelma R. Voorhees passed away peacefully February 24, 2013 at her residence. She was born near Twin Falls, ID on June 30, 1929, the youngest of eight children. Thelma grew up in the Twin Falls area where she met her loving husband, Donald. In 1962 Donald and Thelma moved to Reno with their young children, Vicki and Bruce.

Thelma lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed all outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping, golf and spending time at Graeagle, CA. She spent much of her retirement years travelling. She was an accomplished pianist and was a music teacher for Washoe County School District for many years.

Despite her accomplishments, Thelma was most proud of her family. She attended all her children's extracurricular events and especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities. She would never pass up the opportunity to discuss in great detail the latest activity participated in by a grandchild. She was always happy, energetic, positively encouraged and supported her family's endeavors.

She always looked forward to spending festive holidays and occasions together and was generous beyond words.

It is with tremendous sadness that Thelma has now left our presence. She leaves this world a better place than when she entered it due to her compassionate and joyful existence. The world has lost, and Heaven has gained, an extremely special and caring woman.

She is predeceased by her husband, Donald, and survived by her daughter Vicki (John) Rhodes, son Bruce (Debbie), and grandchildren Melody (Rob) White, Kristina, Brady, and Ashley.

The family would like to give special thanks and appreciation to all Thelma's friends who displayed extraordinary friendship and care to her in her later years as well as Thelma's care givers during her final months.

A memorial and celebration of life will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 6695 Mae Anne Avenue, Reno, NV 89523 on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Everyone who knew Thelma is invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, Thelma asked that donations be made to the P.E.O Continuing Education Scholarship Fund for women who have had to discontinue their education for some reason and want to continue. Your tax-deductible donation may be sent to 3700 Grand Ave., Des Moines, Iowa 50312.
