Nicholas Frederick Stiren

Nick passed peacefully on the early morning of January 30th surrounded by his beloved wife of 52 years Cleo Elizabeth (Bea) Herrick, his children and grandson by his side. Born in East Los Angeles the son of Angeline Sakser and Nicholas Stiren, he completed High School at Cantwell and Pius X High School, in Los Angeles and attended Fullerton Junior College and Gavalon Junior College in Northern California, where he obtained an Associate's Degree in Drafting.

Nick joined the United States Air Force in November, 1958 ending a distinguished military career in November of 1964. While in the Air Force Nick met and married his wife Bea on September 29, 1962 in La Mirada, CA. They shared many happy adventures throughout their marriage.

After his military service in 1967 Nick worked in the Ordinance Industry in Hollister, CA, then in 1968 he began his long notable career in the cement industry first for Ideal Cement Company in San Juan Batista, CA. in 1973 he transferred to La Porte, CO as a Maintenance Supervisor and was promoted to Plant Superintendent. When Ideal was later purchased by Holnam, in 1991 he was promoted to Plant Manager and transferred to Seattle, WA where he remained until Holnam was purchased by La Farge. After retiring from Holnam Nick accepted a position as the Plant Manager at Nevada Cement Company and he and his wife Bea, moved to Fernley, NV in October 1998. Soon after arriving at Nevada Cement, Nick was promoted to the position of President and remained with Nevada Cement until he retired at the age of 65 in July, 2006.

An avid outdoors-man, Nick traveled all over the globe everywhere from big-game fishing in Mexico to South Africa for Safari. Following his stepfather Richard R. Redding, a Free Mason, he joined the Mason's Blue Lodge in Fort Collins, CO. and received his 31st degree in the Scottish Right in Denver, CO, he was also a member of E. Clampus Vitas. In addition Nick belonged to Nevada Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America, American Concrete Institute, Nevada Mining Association, California Cement Association, A Lifetime Member National Rifle Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Nevada Big Horns Association, and Ducks Unlimited. Always our hero, he was a tremendous husband, father, brother, leader and valued loyal friend to all who knew him. Nick was preceded in death by his daughter Kristen Dale (Stiren) Walker and he is survived by his wife Cleo (Bea) Stiren, his children Nicole Stiren of Fort Collins, CO, Nicholas Stiren of Seattle, WA, Michelle (Stiren) Johnson of Kirkland, WA; his grandchildren Nicholas Dice, Rhonnie (Walker) Wolf, Nicholas Walker, William Walker; Great-Grandchildren Peyton Wolfe, Preston Wolfe, Kristen Wolfe; and his brother John Balicki of Fullerton, California.

Services for Nick will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Monday , February 10th at 2:00 PM followed by a celebration of his life at the Fernley Golf Course from 3:00 - 5:00 pm.
