Alex (Poppa) passed away at St. Pauls Hospital after a long struggle with health issues.

Survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy, son Paul and wife Colleen, grandson Aaron (Colleen), granddaughters Chelsea and Kayley. Also son Ian and wife Vicki, grandsons Bobby and Thomas, great grandsons Matteo and Trace and sisters-in-law Sharon Gatto and Anne Clouston. Nephews Lee, Michael, David Erickson and families in Eastern Canada, and relatives and in Australia.

Articled to Barry Cotton, B.C.L.S., he became a notable land surveyor. A partner in Hermon, Cotton and Bunbury, then Hermon, Bunbury and Oke. He was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Alex's projects include Trans Mountain Pipline, B.C. Rail, Whistler town site and Mtn, Blackcomb Mtn, major powerline installations. Grouse Mt. Gondolas, Native reserve lands, National Park boundaries and C.B.C. Installations.

A keen volunteer; Alex was an early member of North Shore Rescue, started the dog search section in N.S.R., was a long time active member of Whistler Ski Patrol, Fire Department, Museum Society, and Advisory Planning Board. He managed his son's soccer teams.

Alex enjoyed Mountaineering, tennis, golf, travel and the company of his many friends. He especially enjoyed his 52 years of skiing.

Alex requested no service. A celebration of life will be arranged. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Squamish General Hospital.
