It is with great sadness, but much relief that we announce that our darling Aunt Sylvia passed away at the age of 88 after living with Alzheimer's for 15 years. We are all thankful that she is now at peace and in a far better place.

Sylvia was the youngest of four (Peter, Muriel and Robin) and she lived by these THREE KEYS to Success: Be Creative, Be Spiritual and always have Furry Passion.

At the outbreak of WW2, Sylvia enlisted in the Wrens and was keen to join her sister in England only to discover she'd been shipped 'overseas' to Newfoundland. Always the trooper, Sylvia served her country with distinction and later became a valued North Vancouver Scout leader.

Creatively, Sylvia was an accomplished artist in all mediums including water colours, ink sketches, Chinese art, print making and photography. Early on Sylvia decided to make a career out of teaching art to eager elementary and Carson Graham High School students. Sadly, not a single Picasso or Matisse in the bunch.

Spiritually, Sylvia followed her heart and soul in the most Infinite of Ways. She viewed the world with broad brush strokes, aboard tramp steamers and rickshaws, along jungle trails and atop ancient ruins. Always curious and open minded she was a strong believer in the power of self discovery and living a healthy lifestyle. The world according to Sylvia was both amusing and her muse. It was infused in her art and became the canvas for her life work.

Furry Passion meant only one thing…CATS (not the musical). Never more loved and pampered, Sylvia's home was filled with the murmur of enduring affection and animated one-way conversations. It was a purr-fect relationship amidst overflowing bowls of kibble.

Sylvia leaves behind the fond remembrances of family members, the many nieces, nephews, god-children and special Tibetan children who knew her for her love of life, her generosity and her tenacious "finale" as she played out her life's final refrain. We will all miss her warming hugs and radiant smile.

Sylvia would be thrilled if you honoured her memory with a donation to either TRAS (TransHimilayan Aid Society) or The Society for the Arts in Dementia Care.
