PARKINSON - Derek H . August 8, 1925 - August 14, 2013 Derek passed away peacefully on August 14th, 2013. He is survived by his wife Anne, his daughter Janet (John) Robinson, granddaughter Deyell, grandson Dylan, daughter Maureen (Doug) Forward, granddaughters Alexandra and Kristen, his brother Gordon and his stepson Ian (Liz) Watson and their children Kelsey and Robbie. Derek was born and raised in Bolton, England and served in the British Royal Air Force during World War II. He obtained his Chartered Accountancy designation in 1950 and accepted a position with Price Waterhouse in Vancouver. He was subsequently made a partner in 1965, specializing in Canadian income tax law. In 1970, Derek began working for forest products giant, MacMillan Bloedel, soon becoming their Vice-President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. At age 55, he was appointed a Director of Canada Trust. In 1982, he commenced work with the natural gas transmission company, Westcoast Energy, as Chief Financial Officer and later as a Director. He completed his career there in 1988 as Acting President and Chief Executive Officer. In 2004 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia. Throughout his career, Derek was a highly regarded member of the business community, appreciated for his meticulous professional standards and great sense of humour. His family remembers him as a kind and gentle man who was always ready with a big smile and a witty remark. He will live on in our memories with much love and respect. There will be a Celebration of Life for Derek on Sunday, September 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at Seymour Golf and Country Club located at 3723 Mt. Seymour Parkway in North Vancouver.
