Ella "Naomi" Sammons, 90, passed away April 23, 2013, surrounded by family at her home in Dunnellon, Fla. Naomi was born in Hernando, June 24, 1922, to William "Huey" Ogle and Edith Croft Ogle. She graduated from Citrus High School in Inverness in 1940. She married George Dewey Sammons Jr., June 30, 1940, in Hernando. The newlyweds moved to Dunnellon in January of 1943 with their two young daughters. They were blessed with two sons in 1946 and 1955, respectively. In 1972, Naomi, along with her son George, opened Sammons House of Flowers, a staple in the Dunnellon community until the doors closed in June, 2001. Naomi was a long standing member of the First Baptist Church of Dunnellon as well as a long time officer in the Pythian Sisterhood.
Although she suffered the loss of her husband, a son and a daughter, she is survived by a daughter, and a son, as well as a large extended family that includes 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Naomi was dearly loved by all of her family as well as many in the community.
Funeral Services were in the Chapel at Robert's Funeral Home in Dunnellon 3 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013. A viewing for the public was held from 1 to 3 p.m., prior to the service. Burial followed at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Inverness. Expressions of sympathy can be made to robertsofdunnellon.com. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Dunnellon.
