Harvey C. Markham, 88, passed away Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Born Jan. 3, 1930, in Romeo, to William and Josie Markham, one of eight children, Harvey graduated from Buck Pond Elementary School in Romeo, Dunnellon High School, was in the first graduating class of Central Florida Junior College in Ocala in 1960, and received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Florida.
Harvey was an educator in the public school system, and became a long-time principal of Yankeetown School, retiring in 1995. At the age of 21, he married his soulmate, and together they raised four children.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Mildred; his two sons, Robert, Rudolph and his wife, Lorie; his daughter, Barbara, and her husband, Jerry; his seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandson.
He looks over us all now with his daughter, Deborah, from Heaven. Harvey will be remembered as a pillar of the community and a mentor to many young people.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at Roberts Funeral Home, 19939 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Dunnellon. Burial will follow in Hickory Springs Cemetery in Romeo. The family will be accepting friends at the home of Harvey following the interment.
