Hugh H. Hartley Jr., formerly from Peru, Ind., passed away April 25, 2018, in Ocala under the care of Hospice.

He was born June 30, 1930, in Washington, D.C., to Hugh H. Hartley and Evelyn Irene Heflin.

Hugh married Ruth Hann on Feb. 28, 1953, in Washington, D.C., and she preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 1995. Hugh graduated from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C., and served as a non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years. His military declarations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Upon retirement from the Air Force, Hugh went to work in Peru as a car salesman for 16 years.

He moved to Dunnellon, for the second time, five years ago and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dunnellon and a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He enjoyed golfing and bowling.

He is survived by his sons, Stephen Hartley of Dunnellon; Gary Hartley and his wife, Alice Mary, of Peru, Ind.; Mark Hartley and his wife, Cindy of Fuguay-Varina, N.C.; grandchildren, Nathan Hartley and his wife, Lu; Aaron Hartley and his wife, Kelsie; Issac Hartley; Mary Alice Hartley and Ellen Marie Sipes and her husband, Jeffery; great-grandchildren, Ellie Joy Hartley, Peter Hartley, Thomas Hartley and George Sipes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth, and sisters, Helen Heloise Hartley and Winifred Ellen Brubaker.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Hugh H. Hartley Jr., will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2018, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Russ Randall officiating, In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Dunnellon.
