Kenneth "Kenny" E. Roberts, 74, a long-time local businessman and Marion County native, passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2017 in Ocala.
Kenny was a third-generation funeral director and the owner of Roberts Funeral Home of Dunnellon. He spent his entire life serving others in many capacities, including the Fort King Lion's Club, the Marion Dunn Masonic Lodge, the Ocala Shrine Club and the Ocala Scottish Rite Bodies. In his earlier years, he worked tirelessly helping families get their children admitted to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital and Shriners Burn Institute.
He was a graduate of the Ocala High School Class of 1962, the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in Dallas, Texas, a proud member of the NRA, and was a charter member of the Independent Funeral Directors of Florida.
He was a member of Dunnellon Presbyterian Church.
Kenny was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and anything that took place outdoors. One of his greatest joys was boating up and down the Rainbow River, sharing his knowledge of the history of Rainbow Springs.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Patty Cole Roberts; his son, Kevin K. Roberts; his daughter, Pam Jo Roberts and her husband Alan Skelton; his brother, Terry S. Roberts; and his grandchildren, Taylor and Cole Roberts, and Ansley, Parker and Sawyer Skelton.
A memorial service for Mr. Roberts will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church, 21501 W. State Road 40, Dunnellon, with Rev. Jeffrey W. Welch, Pastor Eddie Fulford and Pastor Russ Randall officiating.
