Frederick Silvey Obituary

Frederick H. Silvey of Rockwood went to be with the Lord on Feb. 14, 2015, at UT Medical Center in Knoxville.
Fred graduated from Harriman High School where he was co-captain of the football team. He attended East Tennessee State University and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. After graduation, Fred worked at Harriman Welding Supply, a three-generation family business. He significantly expanded the business operations during his tenure as president until the business was sold upon his retirement. Fred was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and camp. His favorite hobby was arrowhead hunting. His love for the outdoors was developed as a Boy Scout. He was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout and selected for the Order of the Arrow. He was a compassionate man, volunteering at Rockwood Ministerial Association's Food Pantry for years after retirement. He gave generously to those in need both financially and emotionally. He was known for his story telling, dry sense of humor and keen sense of observation. Fred attended a men's Bible study in Knoxville for many years devoted to discipleship and evangelism. He was preceded in death by parents, Myra and Elgene "Tut" Silvey, Kingston.
He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Carolyn Ann Silvey; brother, Thomas N. Silvey and his wife Josephine, Traphill, N.C.; cousins, Robert and Bette Brotherton, Bill and John Miller, Helen Musey Jamison, Michael Silvey, Meta Kay Silvey Harker, Emily Silvey Debinder, Bryan Silvey and Bill Silvey; stepchildren, Angela Ledford and Martin Jones and wife Angel; sister-in-law, Lisa Arden and husband Johnny; and his faithful companion, his dog Molly.
A celebration of Fred's life will be at West Hills Presbyterian Church in Harriman on Wednesday, Feb. 25. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Service will follow immediately after the visitation in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to either the Food Pantry of Rockwood Ministerial Association, 223 N. Front Ave., Rockwood, TN 37854, 354-1750, www.RockwoodMinisterial.org; or at a charity of your choice. Kyker Funeral Home, Kingston, is in charge of arrangements. www.kykerfuneralhomes.com
