William Ronald "Bill" Jago, 73, of Kingston, passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, after a long illness.
He was born to the late Anthony and Evelyn Kuberra Jago on Feb. 21, 1941, in Duluth, Minn. He grew up in Oak Ridge and attended Oak Ridge High School, graduating in 1959. He completed his electrician apprenticeship and worked for 29 years as an electrician and maintenance supervisor at the Oak Ridge Y-12 National Security Complex until his retirement in 1996. He was an active member of Kingston United Methodist Church. He had a huge love for life and people. He was an outgoing person and avid outdoorsman with a wonderful, offbeat sense of humor. He spent many good days with fishing pole in hand, in the woods hunting, and gardening. He enjoyed staying busy with his church activities and lived for gatherings with family, his many friends, and especially visits from his great-grandson, Connor.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert "Bob" Jago, Kingston.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Larinda Kerr Jago, Kingston. He is survived by his sisters, Maryann and Walter Newman, Oliver Springs, and Kathy and Tom Jeffers, Blacksburg, Va.; sister-in-law, Nell Jago, Kingston; and in-laws, Don and Lavonda Phelps, Maryville. He is survived by three children, Kevin and Robin Jago, Kingston, Toni Jago and Dick Heitmann, Knoxville, and Dana and Chris Springer, Loudon. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Kelly and Alix Jago, Kingston; great-grandchildren, Connor and Cady; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in memoriam to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in Kingston United Methodist Church, with a celebration-of-life service following. A burial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Grandview Cemetery, Maryville. Kyker Funeral Home, Kingston, is in charge of arrangements. www.kykerfuneralhomes.com

I'll always remember Mr. Jago as a very good man. As a young boy he allowed me tag along to the circus, fall festivals, picnics, a couple of fishing trips and other family events at his expense. I know I was in the way sometimes but he was a good kind person who overlooked my faults and made my childhood a lot better. "Yes he was a very good kind man".

Kathy and I so enjoyed meeting Larinda at the ORHS high school 50th reunion in 2009. Bill was a friend for more than 60 years, and there was never a better guy. We played hundreds of baseball games and always had to do the Jago shift at Middletown ball park for the "lefty".
He will be sorely missed. I wish we could have gotten together again after the reunion.
