Richard D. Shelton, 85, passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, in Roane Medical Center in Harriman.
He was a member of Post Oak Missionary Baptist Church. He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an inspector with the state of Tennessee for 40 years. He was born on May 1, 1928, in Williamsburg, Ky., to Tom and Josephine Stephens Shelton. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Shelton, Rockwood; son, Melbie Ross Shelton and wife Bridgette, Fort Orange, Fla.; daughter, Vickie Cochran and husband Tommy, Ashboro, N.C.; son, Tracy Shelton, Rockwood; five grandchildren, Travis Shelton, Josiah and Gabe Cochran, Corey and Courtney Shelton; four great-grandchildren; brother, William "Bill" Shelton and wife Bernice, Rockwood; sisters, Lorene Purdy, Harriman, and Jean Wilson, Kingston.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, from the chapel of Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. Funeral service will follow at 8 p.m., with the Rev. Tommy Cochran and the Rev. Bill Stone officiating. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at New Hope Cemetery with full military honors by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard.
