Alvin Bernard Poole

Alvin Bernard Poole, 90, of Harriman, passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, in Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville.
He was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Rockwood to T.Y. Poole and Molly Bowling Poole. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Harriman, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a retired machinist with Kayser-Roth Hosiery Mills with 35 years of service. He was the Roane County Veterans Service Officer for 30 years who served as past commander of the Harriman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6598 for more than 25 years and was a member of the American Legion Post in Harriman. He had served on the Emory Golf and Country Club Board, the Harriman Utility Board, and was a Little League baseball coach. He loved all sports, playing golf and playing cards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Morgan Poole and Clyde Poole; and sister, Vernie Mayton.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Rose Poole, Harriman; children, Tony Poole and wife Mary, Knoxville, Francis Daniels and husband Carl Ed, Harriman, Frank Walker and wife Stephanie, Kingston, and Cindy Handler and husband Tim, Kingston; grandchildren, Emma Poole, Jake Poole, Devin Handler, Whitney Handler, Justin Walker and wife Kristi, Josh Walker, Sonya Beasley, Adrian Hicks and wife Amy, and Bridget Goad and husband Brian; great-grandchildren, Cameron Gains, Adrianna Hicks, Lily Goad, Briley Goad, Lucy Goad, Davis Ann Walker and William Walker; brother, J.C. Poole, Harriman; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, in Riverside Baptist Church, 629 Clinch St., Harriman. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, from Riverside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mason Goodman officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Roane Memorial Gardens, Rockwood, for graveside services and burial. Full military honors will be given by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard and the Tennessee Army National Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Riverside Baptist Church, P.O.
