Billy Paul 'Bill' Gibson, 77, of Rockwood, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center after a short illness.
Bill was a graduate of South Harriman High School and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He served on Harriman City Council for two terms, with one term as vice mayor. He served as Harriman chairman of the United Fund, was on the Harriman Library Board and the Harriman Utility Board in the mid-1960's. He was a supervisor for Burlington Industries for 15 years and later partnered with his brother Gerald in a local business until his retirement in the mid 1980s. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Rockwood and was previously a member of South Harriman Baptist Church for many years. He was an avid golfer for many years and enjoyed singing in his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Eugene 'Bill' Gibson and Dallas Ruth Goddard Gibson; and brother, Charles Ronald 'Ronnie' Gibson.
Survivors include daughters, Stephanie Dolsen, Lori Thompson (Jeff) and Amanda Futrell (Roger); grandchildren, Kristy Manahan (Jacob), Christopher Futrell, Bret Dolsen, Andrew Futrell and Charlotte Thompson: great-granddaughter, Katherine Manahan; brothers, Gerald Gibson (Joann) and Joe Gibson (Linda).
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Evans Mortuary. Funeral will follow with the Rev. Harold Newby officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Roane Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Second Baptist Church of Rockwood.
