Calvin A. Scarbrough, 87, of Kingston, passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, in NHC Healthcare Center of Oak Ridge.
He was born Nov. 5, 1924, in Harriman and was a lifelong resident of Roane County. He was an avid carpenter who enjoyed making birdhouses and assisted with the extreme makeover on the Tennessee Baptist Children's Home in Oakdale. He also made offering boxes for children's church. He was a dedicated Christian who served with his whole heart and was a huge mission supporter. He was a U.S. Navy
veteran of World War II
. He retired from Y-12 as a journeyman pipefitter and a member of the pipefitters union.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie Davis Scarbrough; a brother, B.E. Scarbrough; and a nephew, Michael Scarbrough.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Guettner Scarbrough, Kingston; several nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends who loved him very much.
A private graveside service was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Kyle E. Beverly and Bro. Jim Reimer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Cedar Grove Baptist Church cemetery fund, 405 Old Johnston Valley Road, Kingston, TN 37763; or church mission of choice.
