Charles Augustus Stone, 80, of Kingston, passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 6, 2012, in Johnson City Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Athens on July 16, 1932, to Jesse Lee Stone Sr. (deceased) and Elizabeth Pid Hamilton (deceased).
He was a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of Braxton Chapel Church of Kingston and loved listening to gospel music. He loved to be around family and friends. He was a veteran of both the U.S. Army
and Air Force.
He is survived by his sisters, Sharon Martin, Athens, Ethel King, Riceville, Helen "Sissy" McMahan, Athens, Becky Porter, Atlanta, and Don Stone, Sweetwater; his sons, Rodney Charles Stone, Fort Lewis, Wash., and Jeffery Sleigh, Knoxville; his daughters, Wanda Dye, Alcoa, Rosetta Harkness, Knoxville, Darlene Cason, Knoxville, Anita Bailey and Elizabeth Anne Bailey, Sweetwater, and Lisa King, Athens; a son-in-law, Roland Harkness, Knoxville; a stepdaughter: Andrea P. Jamison, Detroit; numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, in Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. A celebration of life will follow at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Mark Green officiating. Family and friends will gather at Evans Mortuary then proceed to Braxton Chapel in Kingston for 3 p.m. graveside services. Members of the family will serve as pallbearers.
