Charles E. Starring

Charles E. Starring, 89, of Rockwood, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, in Roane Medical Center, Harriman.
He was born Aug. 30, 1923, in Rockwood to Ralph Stebbins Starring and Ruth Ann Hinds Starring. He was a member of Rockwood First Baptist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Rockwood and the American Legion. He was a retired unit operator with the Tennessee Valley Authority with 34 years of service and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 270 in Oak Ridge. He was a U.S Navy veteran of World War II, having served on the USS Gamble "Minesweeper" DM-15 and was a survivor of the invasion of Iwo Jima on Feb. 19, 1945. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman, enjoyed farming and planting a garden, was on a bowling league for many years at Tri-City Lanes in Midtown and played softball for many years in Spring City and Rockwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Starring.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jimmie Starring, Rockwood; sons, Eddie Starring and wife Patsy, Rockwood, and Donnie Starring, Blue Ridge, Ga.; grandchildren, Alison Bebee and husband Phillip, Knoxville, Paula Starring, Murfreesboro, Jamie Starring of Fort Collins, Colo., and Travis Starring, Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Martha Jean Blevins, Kingston; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, in Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. Graveside services and burial will follow at Stebbins Cemetery in Grandview, with Bro.
