Clare Ellis 'Pete' Peterson
Clare Ellis ""Pete"" Peterson, 81, of Rockwood, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, in Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, receiving the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. He was a machinist at Chase Glass. He enjoyed woodworking, including making his own sawmill, building a house from logs cut on the property, and making furniture. He was preceded in death by parents, Edwin and Wenona Peterson Krause; and brothers, Charles Peterson and Therlo Peterson.
He is survived by wife, Wanda Peterson, Rockwood; children, Duane Smith (Betty), Knoxville, and Rick Smith, Rockwood; grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Rockwood, and Jessica Smith, Knoxville; sisters, Connie Gratz (Ed), Milwaukee, and Jill Krause Hillis (Matt), Jacksonville, Fla.; and brothers, Joe Krause (Sherri), Manistique, Mich.; and Leon Peterson (Joan), Hinsdale, Ill.
Memorial services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in the chapel of Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. Family and friends met in the chapel for the ""celebration-of-life"" service. The family will have burial and concluding services at a later date.
