Clyde Ray Collins, 87, of Harriman, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, in Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville. He was a member of Emory Heights Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army
, having served in the Americal Division during World War II
. He was a former Harriman city judge, having served in that post from 1984-92, and former Roane County Commissioner for 15 years. He was commander of VFW
Post 6598 as well as a former chaplain and trustee, Harriman Utility Board member, exalted ruler of Roane County Elks, member of the Harriman Masonic Lodge 569, Kerbela Shrine Temple and Roane County Shriners. He was a member also of The Emory Golf and Country Club. He was a former State of Tennessee District 2 commander, chief of staff and quartermaster of the VFW. He was named as a Roane County Treasure in 2010 and was appointed colonel aide de camp in 2012 state of Tennessee. He retired from Oak Ridge X-10. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Florence Collins Brown; and brothers, Eugene and James.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Collins, Harriman; daughter, Margaret Johnson, Harriman; son, Steve Collins, Harriman; granddaughter, Chelsey Collins Cook, Harriman; sister, Betty Collins Simpson and husband Charles, Monterey; and brother, Paul Collins and wife Brenda, Michigan.
Funeral will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in Kyker Funeral Home chapel, Harriman. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in Kyker Funeral Home, Harriman. Private entombment will be at Roane Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be Jot Raymond, Dr. Ronald Higgs, Dustin Cook, Alvin Poole, Lyle Ensey, Chris Mason, Scott Mason and Randy Ellis. www.kykerfuneralhomes.com
