Donald Fred McDavid Sr., 67, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 14, 1945, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and moved with his family to Brooker, Fla., in 1958. He graduated from Sante Fe High School in 1964 and attended ABAC in Tift, Ga. He worked on his family quarter horse ranch, training and showing horses until its dispersal in September 1972. After 27 years of service with the Florida Department of Corrections, he retired to Rockwood. He served in the Florida National Guard and was a current member in the 82nd Masonic Lodge in Raiford, Fla., The National Cutting Horse, American Quarter Horse and American Paint Horse associations and Daysville Baptist Church, Daysville.
He enjoyed being outdoors working with his horses, farming and visiting with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Jeanette Pridemore McDavid; and father, Arthur Fred McDavid.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sherry Ann Crews McDavid; children, Denise Pearce and husband Robin, Lake City, Fla., Donna McDavid and husband Ray, Brooker, Fla., and Donald McDavid Jr. and wife Destiny, Winter Springs, Fla.; grandchildren, Dwayne, Austin Michael, Ashley, Tyler, Austin L., Jalyssa and Isaiah (another grandson, Gabriel, is expected); siblings, Terry McDavid and wife Ginger, Lake City, Fla., Caroline Green and husband Kenny, Wildwood, Fla., Sue Register, Daytona, Fla., and Brenda Whitehead and husband Henry, Lake Butler, Fla.; and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. The service will follow in the chapel at Evans Mortuary at 8 p.m., with the Rev. Hascue Carter officiating. Burial will be at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Lacrosse, Fla. An online registry is available at www.evansmortuary.biz
