Donald Thomas "Duck" Wicks, 77, of Rockwood, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014.
He was born Sept. 12, 1937, in Rockwood to Melvin Hill Wicks and Madge Thelma Fox Wicks. He was a member of Rockwood Church of Christ where he served as a deacon until his health declined. He retired from the state of Tennessee, Department of Survey and Design. He served as a member of the Roane County Commission 1986-94 and 2002-06. He was a member of the Rockwood Civitan Club and served on the Rockwood High School Class of 1955 Reunion Committee and the Chamberlain Board. He loved life and loved helping other people, especially children, and loved sports. He coached in the Rockwood Rams Program, refereed games, played softball, and was a big University of Tennessee Vols fan. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, June Wicks, Rockwood; sons, Randy Wicks and wife Mary, Harriman, and Jeff Wicks and wife Lisa, Rockwood; four grandchildren, Amber and Tyler Wicks, Harriman, and Rachel and Sam Wicks, Rockwood; two sisters, Wilma Walker, Rockwood, and Judy Jolley, Rockwood; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, in Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, from the chapel of Evans Mortuary with Kirby Hinds and Kendall Bear officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Rockwood. Memorial contributions may be made to either Rockwood Church of Christ, P.O.
