Freida Grant, 76, of the Dry Hill community of Rockwood, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014, in Rockwood.
She was born Nov. 23, 1937, in Rockwood to Clontz Yancy White and Mary Magdalene Stout White. She was a member of Mount Teman Baptist Church in Rockwood. She loved playing the piano and being a substitute teacher at Pine View Elementary School in Cumberland County. She was also a devoted wife and mother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Hiram Franklin "Buddy" Grant; sisters, Louise Rickard and Mary Frances Grant; brother, Jim Lane; and son-in-law, John Treadway.
Survivors include children, Gene Grant and wife, Julie, Alamogordo, N.M., Albert Grant and wife Joy, Rockwood, Willie Grant and wife Pam, Crossville, Rosie Treadway, Rockwood, and Mona Bryant and husband Doug, Rockwood; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Noel White and wife Linda, Rockwood, and Danny White, Arizona; sister, Becky Rucker and husband John, Rockwood; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. from the chapel of Evans Mortuary, with the Rev. Ted Halcomb officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Dry Hill Cemetery in Rockwood for graveside services and burial.
