Gustave Easter Sr., a beloved husband and father, went to heaven on Monday, March 25, 2013.
He was born Sept. 1, 1924 in Rockwood to Gus and Margaret Pierce Easter. He was a member of Caney Ford Baptist Church. He accepted Jesus as his Savior when he was 17 years old. He showed the love of Jesus through his service as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher, as well as in his work as an insurance agent. He was a retired insurance agent with National Life Insurance, now known as American General, with 35+ years of service. He was known as "the chewing-gum man" by the children on his insurance route.
He was honored to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1948-51 during the Korean War
. In his later years, he was a member of the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Maggie "Mom" Easter; brothers, Wesley, Herman, Floyd "Taud" and Franklin Easter; and sister, Lola Pershing.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Easter, Rockwood; daughters, Rosemary Brown and husband Harley, Calhoun, Ga., and Nancy Easter, Rockwood; sons, Gus Easter and wife Julie, Kingston, and Wesley Easter, Rockwood; two granddaughters; four great-grandsons; sisters, Iola Lewis, Rockwood, Irene Lands, Rockwood, and Margie Pelfrey, Rockwood; brother, Bob Easter and wife Wanda, Rockwood; exceptional caregivers, Flossie Browning and Heather Hall.
The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in Caney Ford Baptist Church, Harriman. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 29, in Caney Ford Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark McCoig officiating. The graveside and burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, with full military honors by The Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard. Evans Mortuary, Rockwood, is in charge of arrangements.
