Hugh Evan Wyatt Jr., 84, of Kingston, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Emeritus in Oak Ridge.
He was born April 29, 1930, in Roane County and was a lifelong resident of this area. He was a dedicated member of Young's Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. He and his wife, Billie, had also served as youth leaders at the church. He retired from Martin Marietta and ORNL as a maintenance mechanic. Mr. Wyatt was a member of Knoxville Carpenters Local No. 50 and helped with the construction of the new Kingston bridge, along with being project manager during the construction of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Kingston Masonic Lodge. He loved fishing, hunting with his bird dogs, riding motorcycles and was an avid golfer in his day. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeannie Crystal Wyatt; son, Gregory E. Wyatt; grandson, Chuck Williams; parents, Anna Chester Wyatt and Hugh Evan Wyatt Sr.; son-in-law, Ron Williams; and sisters, Volena Wyatt and Edna Lee McLain.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Billie Hedgecock Wyatt, Kingston; children, Aneitta Clay and husband Alvin, Clinton, Lavonne Sherrod and husband Jack, Knoxville, Ginger Williams, Kingston, and Teresa Bell-Hafner and husband Chaz, Kingston; grandchildren, Crystal Williams, Kingston, Heather Browne and husband Chris, Kingston, Jeffrey Sherrod, Knoxville, Amy Carter and husband Jeremy, Knoxville, David Bell and wife Kim, Kingston, and Anna Szemborski and husband Sean, Knoxville; great-grandchildren, Audrey, Gage and Camden Browne; sister, Kathleen Huff Baker and husband Ben, Kingston; brothers-in-law, Fred McLain, Kingston, Charles Hedgecock and wife Dottie, Huntsville, Ala., and J.C. Hedgecock and wife Shirley, Tulsa, Okla.; sister-in-law, Nettie Mae Sherrod and husband Fred, Knoxville; best friend, Porter Leach, Kingston; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, in Young's Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with funeral service following at 8 p.m., with the Rev. Dale Watson officiating.
