Joe Hurst Walker

Joe Hurst Walker, 69, of Harriman, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, in Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
Walker, a Harriman native and Harriman attorney since 1971, was the son of the late Ben and Myrtle Walker. He was a graduate of Harriman High School and the University of Tennessee. In the early 1970s, he served as county attorney for almost six years. In 1977, Joe was a delegate to the State Constitutional Convention, and he served for about 10 years as a county delinquent tax attorney. He was the first public defender in the Ninth Judicial District and had served in that position since 1989. Joe was a member of Harriman United Methodist and Harriman Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Deborah Walker, and Josh and Dayna Walker; daughter, Veronica Suzanne Walker and fiancé Chase Ray; sister, Ruth Clabo; and grandchildren, Taylor Walker, Matthew Walker and Nathan Walker.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, in Harriman United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Steve Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, in Kyker Funeral Home chapel, Harriman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Harriman United Methodist Church Youth Fund, Food Pantry or Music Fund.
