Lelia Godwin Day, 92, of Kingston, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Renaissance Terrace in Harriman.
She was born March 6, 1922 in Jefferson County and was a graduate of Jefferson County High School and also attended Carson-Newman College. Lelia had been a resident of Kingston for 62 years and was a faithful member of Kingston First Baptist Church. She loved her church family and spoke highly of their devoted love and kindness shown through visits, phone calls and meals during her illness. She was also a member of NSDAR Avery Trace Chapter and Order of Eastern Star Kingston Chapter 405. She owned and operated Draperies By Day in Kingston for many years and was well known for her professional seamstress work. She also enjoyed writing, cooking and was an avid gardener. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, William L. Day; and parents, Walter and Althea Beals Godwin.
Survivors include son, Robert Day and significant other Nancy Quinby, Kingston; grandchildren, Jason and Ginny Day, Knoxville, Jonathan Day, Kingston, Michael and Courtney Day, Louisville, Ky.; great-grandchildren, Sutton Day, Charlie Day and Jack Day; special nephew, Jeff Day, Knoxville; sisters-in-law, Ruth Edmonds, Memphis, and Jerry and Susan Edmonds, Memphis; a host of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in First Baptist Church in Kingston, with funeral service following at 1 p.m. with Pastor Sonny Works officiating.
